چکیده

Many clinical studies have shown that the arm movement of patients with neurological injury is often slow. In this paper, the speed analysis of arm movement is presented, with the aim of evaluating the arm movement automatically using the Kinect camera. The arm movement seems simple at the first glance, but in reality it is very complex neural and biomechanical process that can be used for detecting a neurological disorder. This is a preliminary study investigated three different armmovement speeds fast, medium and slow. Abnormality is associated with slowness in arm movement, while the fastness indicates healthy movement. With a sample size of 27 subjects, the proposed algorithm can classify the three different speed classes (slow, normal, and fast) with overall error 4.94 %. Moreover, the first 40% of the motion can be used to predict the speed type. Additional testing, on real patients with different hand and arm movement impairments is required to verify the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

Distal versus proximal arm tremor in multiple sclerosis assessed by visually guided tracking tasks.

OBJECTIVES To compare action tremor (AT) during manual tracking in normal subjects and patients with multiple sclerosis with tremor (MS-tremor group) and without tremor (MS-no tremor group), and to differentiate tremor occurring predominantly around the distal joint from that involving the proximal joints of the arm. METHODS Subjects performed both a visually guided ramp tracking task using w...

Optimal design of a vibration absorber for tremor control of arm in Parkinson's disease

Because the underlying physiology of pathological tremor in a Parkinson's patient is not well understood, the existing physical and drug therapies have not been successful in tremor treatment. Different mathematical modeling of such vibration has been introduced to investigate the problem and reduce the existing vibration. Most of the models have represented the induced vibration as a sinusoida...

Arm movement speed assessment via a Kinect camera: A preliminary study in healthy subjects

BACKGROUND Many clinical studies have shown that the arm movement of patients with neurological injury is often slow. In this paper, the speed of arm movements in healthy subjects is evaluated in order to validate the efficacy of using a Kinect camera for automated analysis. The consideration of arm movement appears trivial at first glance, but in reality it is a very complex neural and biomech...
